A New Job!
I have toyed with the idea of a blog for a while. The plan with Ruby Tuesday is to offer what some may perceive as a gem each and every Tuesday as I embark on a new learning journey, sharing some of my adventures and insights along the way.
Let's go back to last Tuesday!
I found out I was successful in my application to lead the Early Learners and Kindergarten team at my school next year, and teach Kindergarten for the first time!
Let's just say my mind is alive with ideas! I have been thinking about the big picture of play, different types of play in action and the notion of being 'playful'. I have started to think about the materials that will transform a classroom into an engaging learning space that promotes play and provokes curiosity. I have reached out to wise and inspirational educators I respect that have years of experience in early childhood.
I am conscious of ensuring uninterrupted time for play both indoors and out. Looking at units of inquiry, I have started to reflect on ways to make them more open. (Eg. a unit on the beauty of animals becoming an exploration of beauty in nature). I have started to curate a Wakelet of resources that might be useful for our team in the coming year. Please add your blogs and websites in the comments.
I am participating in a workshop to become an online facilitator for PYP workshops (in addition to my current role of workshop leader for face-to-face workshops). In this, I have chosen to shadow an Early Years workshop to gain insights from teachers around the world. I am also part of a team developing a learning progression in maths for children in Kindergarten and older.
I am also in awe of the wealth of great practice shared so openly on Twitter. One tweet to ask for suggestions of Twitter handles to follow has opened up countless new windows into classrooms in so many places.
My gem to offer this week is the link to The Learning Square's Instagram account founded by Anne van Dam. Anne is a true advocate of children's right to play. Her insights, eloquence and passion are all so inspiring.
I’m so delighted for you! And your team! I’m looking forward to learning along with you in this space. 🙌🏻
